Paint Correction

Paint correction is the process of removing light to heavy defects in the paint of your vehicle using various compounding and/or polishing techniques.  A true paint correcting detail will remove defects without using oily fillers or waxes and will leave the paint with amazing gloss and depth.  Correcting paint takes skill, knowledge, and patience to insure the desired results are achieved. Below are some of the terms used when describing many of the paint issues associated with automotive paint.

Swirls / Spider webs: Caused by incorrect washing/drying techniques either by hand or automated car wash.  Also caused by an incorrect or dirty pad from a previous detail.

Holograms: Usually caused by a medium to heavy cut compound or polish not properly finished off.  After most aggressive compounding or polishing steps, the paint must be properly finished down using less aggressive polishes.  This is usually a 1-3 step process that most 'detailers' fail to do, which results in a wavy or hazy appearance to the paint in sunlight.

RIDS: Deeper isolated scratches which are too deep for a light or medium polish to remove and require compounding / sanding.  Some of these defects may be too severe to safely remove.

The Pristine Detail.   The pictures represent the polishing steps only, there are no waxes or fillers used.  Take notice how proper polishing deepens the color and removes the scratches without any wax or fillers.
Contrary to popular belief, you cannot wax a scratch out.
